NDN Girls Book Club launches collaboration with Eighth Generation

Tribally-owned lifestyle company Eighth Generation has partnered with NDN Girls Book Club to present STORIES WOVEN IN BLOOM, a new blanket designed by Jenabah Yazzie (Diné) that celebrates storytelling, kinship, and collaboration.

In a recent interview with Native News Online, Book Club founder Kinsale Drake (Diné) shared that with this collaboration, Book Club hopes to celebrate Indigenous educators and students who must often leave their communities to pursue their educations. Blankets serve as reminders that our children are always welcome back home, and are often celebrations of important milestones like graduations, coming-of-age, and weddings. Lily Painter (Kiowa/Winnebago), community coordinator for Book Club, also emphasized that stories are some of the most important and comforting things we can carry with us throughout our lives as we embark on different journeys.

The design features signature pinks & blues from Book Club’s visual identity, as well as Diné and Kiowa motifs.

The blanket will join Eighth Generation’s Signature Wool collection and incorporates symbolism and important motifs to both Diné and Kiowa peoples, as a tribute to the heritage of the collaborators. The blanket also includes signature soft pinks and blues from NDN Girls Book Club’s visual identity, and references to the yucca plant and oak leaf create circular patterns and mirror images which present a sense of balance and harmony.

Along with its unique and industry-leading artist royalty structure, Eighth Generation is proud to donate a percentage of first-year sales to NDN Girls Book Club to further the organization’s mission of making Indigenous literature accessible to youth.
