NDN Girls Book Club to distribute thousands of free books by Indigenous authors to tribes, rural areas, and cultural centers throughout Oklahoma
NDN Girls Book Club, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization run by Indigenous women, youth, and educators, is kicking off their huge Oklahoma Book Fest starting May 18th. The team has spent months sourcing donations of titles by Indigenous authors from publishers and donors, organizing pop-up events, and planning the team’s first ever BOOK CLUB POWWOW on May 23rd– a first-of-its kind cultural event focused on storytelling, literacy, and community that will distribute free books to attendees. The Powwow will be hosted at the Kiowa Tribal Dance Grounds.
All are welcome to the Book Club’s pop up events to receive free books by Indigenous authors. Native students, educators, and families are especially encouraged to attend!
Publishers who have donated to the drop so far include Penguin Random House, Graywolf Press, Milkweed Editions, Torrey House Press, We Need Diverse Books, Heyday Books, Wesleyan University Press, Highwater Press, Portage & Main Press, and Levine Querido.
Book Club is currently seeking fiscal sponsors to feed families at each stop, help alleviate the cost of purchasing and shipping books, and support the organization throughout the 8-day journey.
There is currently an OPEN CALL FOR VENDORS FOR THE MAY 23RD POWWOW ONLY!
